Postage Stamps

In the past thirty years, a number of postage stamps from around the world have depicted the breed. Some of my favorites are those from Korea, which are detailed miniature pieces of art.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, a number of Russian States, as well as other areas formerly connected to Russia, have issued stamps featuring Japanese Chin.

1999 Karjala (Karelia)
1999 Karjala (Karelia)
Karelia is a region between the northwest corner of the Russia Federation and Finland.

This set bears the same images used for the Kyrgyzstan and Hiimuaa souvenir sheets below.

1999 Kyrgyzstan
1999 Kyrgyzstan
International Philatelic Exhibition Kyrgyzstan, part of Central Asia, achieved independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
1999 Hiiummaa
1999 Hiiumaa
Hiiumaa is a county in Estonia, which is on the northwest corner of the Russia Federation.

Apparently, after the breakup of the Soviet Union, the high inflation rate caused previously issued stamps to be of little value. To remedy the situation, local post offices took blocks of these old stamps and overprinted them with a new image and a new value. They came in a set of five different colored stamps, all with the same overprint. The first stamps below are example of this. Notice, the overprint image on the center right stamp is the same image that was later used on the stamp at right.
